The Batman v Superman trailer, if it existed in a vacuum, is actually a pretty good trailer.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t exist in a vacuum and feels like a summary of the two hour movie that we’ll eventually get.
The Batman v Superman trailer, if it were a fan-made concept trailer for a movie that doesn’t exist then it’s actually pretty DAMN good.
Unfortunately, this is for a movie that we’ll receive in just a few months. I would’ve loved to have seen the first meeting of Clark Kent & Bruce Wayne while sitting in a darkened theater but alas, I saw it on my iPhone.
Marketing decisions aside, the trailer is not bad at all (with one glaring exception). Marketing decisions, come on back; this was a terrible idea, go to your room.
Despite or because we live in a teaser/trailer/tv spot saturated landscape, the art of creating marketing that excites your audience without spoiling the movie going experience is a valuable one. Unfortunately, it’s an art that seems to escape the team at Warner Bros. Not only does this trailer spoil the entire third act, it completely defuses the tension of the entire premise of “Batman v Superman”.
“Batman v Superman: Kinda, Not Really”.
