I am a huge X-Men fan. If fandoms were nations, then I would pledge my undying loyalty to the United States Of Xavier and serve in its armed forces in order to protect it from any and all threats.
That said, it took me a while to accept that this trailer was not made for huge fans like me but for the general public.
If you’re familiar with the source material and the previous X-Men films, there are no surprises to be had here in the trailer. After watching what can happen when you reveal too much such as in the Batman v Superman trailer, then I guess you can call that a good thing.
It’s unfortunate that this trailer seems to be burdened by the necessary exposition and having to showcase its marquee actors like James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence. Unfortunately, there’s so much to get through that you even begin to question what some are even doing there to begin with. Even if they are as wonderful and likable as Jennifer Lawrence.
I’d also like to know what was the point of making the last image of the trailer be what I imagine was supposed to be a dramatic reveal of James McAvoy with a shaved head so he looks more like the older version of Professor X played perfectly by Patrick Stewart.
Then again, I guess it fits with the theme of this trailer: “Pretty But You’ve Seen It All Before”.
